About

Hi! I'm Astrid. I'm from Trinidad & Tobago and I'm currently a journalist in California, USA. I've wanted to be a writer since I was 4, and I'm finally comfortable calling myself a writer - and not an "aspiring writer" or some variation. Because if I don't say I'm a writer, then who will?

It hasn't been a clear and easy path though and for a while, I veered away from a writing career. In secondary school, I studied sciences and convinced myself I wanted to be a child psychiatrist. Seemed practical; plus, writing was always something I did at the side - unfinished stories on my laptop, journaling at late hours, submitting the occasional article to local newspapers.

I started this blog in my gap year before college, when I spent my time working at a small website company and playing steelpan. Here you'll learn things about me that I'll probably never say in person. In college, I studied Human Biology with a minor in Creative Writing - a nod to the writer in me - and continued blogging, or should I say venting? College was haaaaard. There were high highs and low lows, lots of tears and so much growth. Can actually say I'm a different person from when I started in 2015.

Now that I'm out of college, life hasn't gotten that much easier. I'm just getting better at coping. Anyway, it's exciting to be finally fully embracing my writing path, which is what I know I was put on this earth to do. I hope you find something relatable in what I have to say. Being a human is hard, but we're all in this together!
